Speaking the Complete Sentence

When text is present, fixating on or tapping the center "Speak" button vocalizes the sentence using the system speech synthesizer. When speech begins, a full-screen overlay presents the spoken text, the repeat cycle progress, and a large "Stop Speech" button.

Available configurations under "Settings → General":

  • Auto-Speak Upon Selection: Instantly vocalizes each word or phrase when added to provide real-time auditory confirmation.
  • Repeat Count: Select between 1 and 5 repetitions, or "Until Stopped".
  • Clear After Speaking: Automatically clears the top sentence bar once playback completes or is dismissed.
  • Auto-Speak When Looking Away: Automatically vocalizes the sentence if text is present and the user's gaze leaves the screen for 5–20 seconds (default: 10 seconds). A countdown timer is displayed around the perimeter of the center button; returning gaze to the screen cancels the countdown.

Caregiver Call Button

When "Show Call Button When Main Screen is Empty" is enabled, the central circle transforms into a red "Call" button whenever no text is assembled on the home screen.

  • Default vocalization is "Call caregiver" (customizable in Settings).
  • Repeat count can be independently configured (default: 3 repetitions, or "Until Stopped").
  • Triggering a call does not alter the phrase history or affect existing text configurations.

WARNING

The Call button relies entirely on the iPad speaker volume and the physical proximity of caregivers. It is not an emergency medical call device. It must never replace hospital nurse call cords, monitored telemetry alarms, or regular clinical bedside observation.
